Shai (full name Shai Nerium) is a Symenestra thief and a member of the Crimson Edge born in Kalinor but living in the city of Sunberth.
Physical description
Shai is only 5'2" and 95 pounds with amethyst eyes, she is never without her large black cloak. The cloak covers her from head to toe; keeping elongated limbs and her carefully grown out nails hidden.
If she is caught without her cloak or it is pulled away; she is wearing a simple black pants, boots and a white shirt. She is lithe, almost to the point of malnutrition, with a gentle webbing of veins visible beneath her ashy skin.
Biography
The name of Shai's sire was Lavidis Nerium, but she notably refuses to have any surname. This is because she didn't simply leave Kalinor, she fled.
When Shai was younger, she always the black sheep among her web due to her eyes. While her entire web had brilliant red eyes, she'd been a throwback to older generations with amethyst eyes. While not at all unusual in public it was met with an awkwardness from her family. Her family considered their red eyes to be a blessing on their web by Varitas, and so they refrained from even mentioning the oddity around company
Shai sought out ways to be more and more devout, to prove to her web that she was not a blemish on their name. For years she worshiped Viratas and over time Shai began to worship not to prove to her family but to her god that she was worthy. It is in this mindset that Shai found the fringe fanatics worshiping Varitas in a new more bloody fashion and she quickly joined their ranks. It was several years until her web learned of her practices and after discovery by her family she kept at arms length. Horrified at herself because her efforts had pushed her farther away from her family than ever before. Shai fled and discarded her surname name in hopes that someday she could feel like she would deserve it. She fled across the surface to Alvadas where she purchased passage on a ship going as far as possible from her home, to a place she would never be recognized for her web; Sunberth.
During the several months the voyage took Shai learned much from her follow passengers, having been naive at first these months allowed her a buffer to learn about the city she was headed to. She learned that her skills would grant her a very solid income in Sunberth to the right people or become the wrong person's income. Upon her ships docking in Sunbreth she'd quickly realized the wrong people had noticed her and only scarcely escaped with her freedom.
She had witnessed cruelty and known violence in Kalinor, but the depravity of the people of Sunberth took some time for her to get used to. When she was finally accustomed she found that she liked the Sunberth atmosphere and took to the night streets with cautious vitality.
