Valterrian
From Mizahar Lore
Referred to as Mizahar's Cataclysm, the Valterrian was the darkest day in Mizaharian history. Simply put, the Valterrian was a holy war that broke out within the world and tore Mizahar apart. Two nations were completely destroyed, most of humanity died, and a new, more violent world was born out of the old human empire. The Valterrian consumed the living and reforged a new realm that truly tested the resolve of those left standing in its aftermath. Known collectively as the Valterrian, the events that transpired on BV/AV 0 changed the world as Mizaharians knew it. When the Emperor Galifer Odalah slew the Queen of Alahea, Kova, in a fit of rage on their wedding day when he found out she was not 'pure', Kova's lover, the God Ivak, was swift in his rage and unleashed a fury upon Suva that caused a Divine Djed war among the Gods and Goddesses themselves which nearly destroyed Mizahar. Now, new races thrive and spread out even as humanity struggles to rebuild and reestablish themselves. Sylira, a new nation born out of the old Suvan Empire and Alahea Empire, now rises to prominence collecting the war tossed humanity and rebuilding government. Joining it is Cyphrus and Eyktol in the east, and Falyndar, Kalea, and Taldera in the west.
Mizahar's Cataclysm ~ What Exactly Happened?
For thousands of years, Mizahar was divided into two main nations - Alahea in the east and Suvan in the west. While there was never truly peace, the two nations enjoyed uneasy relations, trade, and the occasional war that gained or lost either side territory. Suvan was united under the iron-fisted rule of the Odalah Family Dynasty. Born not of nobility, but from more common barbarian stock, it was said the entire bloodline infused their rise to power with an unparalleled bloodbath that resulted in the increasing dominance of Suvan over Alahea. Galifer Odalah, Suvan's Emperor and the last great warlord of Mizarhar, became betrothed to Alahea's young Queen Kova Nivar Symkanta in Alahea's last-ditch effort to settle the war and promote peace through a united empire. Queen Kova's father had died during a battle in one of the last conflicts between the two nations. It was after his death that Kova's marriage was announced and peace brokered.
While Kova was a fair and gentle ruler, Emperor Galifer was notoriously ruthless. Rather than tolerate dissent, he simply eliminated it in a seemingly endless bloodbath of public trials and executions. These executions weren't limited to individuals neither. Entire towns and cultures fell to the Emperor Odalah's verdicts. So it was hoped by the populace of both nations with this marriage, the Suvan Empire would benefit from Kova's gentle influence and Alahea would finally know peace from the constant Suvan onslaught.
The Wedding was to take place in Suvan's capital city Suva, which was set in almost the exact northern center of the continent of Mizahar. It was an epic celebration with its festivities planning to run a full month or longer. Suvan hosted Alahea's forces, and for the first time peace seemed assured. The ceremony went off without incident, but upon Queen Kova's wedding night her new husband discovered he wasn't her first lover and flew into an unprecedented rage. Galifer nearly killed Kova with his violence. His sentence for her crime, Death, was swiftly carried out. Chaining her naked to the city gates, her crime painted in her own blood across her bare chest, he left her as a symbol of why Suvan would always dominate Alahea. The Emperor at first let Suva's citizenry stone her, and then he himself beheaded the gentle Queen. Queen Kova was much beloved by her people, and violence almost immediately erupted between the two forces being hosted within the same city.
However, one factor the Emperor didn't take into account was the identity of Kova's lover. Mizaharian Gods and Goddesses have always roamed the lands freely and warred almost as much as the people. Kova's crime was loving the God Ivak, a being of enormous power who held dominion over volcanism and fire. When she was led shamefully through the city and chained to its gates for the Suvan citizens to stone, her fate was sealed in a painful death almost immediately. Ivak realized too late what was happening, and though she was only a mortal, his rage knew no bounds. Although Queen Kova never cried out once, protested her charges, or begged for her life, Ivak reacted swiftly. His actions set off a series of events that resulted in the total destruction of the city of Suva, its nation, and Alahea as well. Gods reacted to Gods and before anyone could gain control, Suva and Alahea's war spilled over into the heavens and resulted in the complete and utter reshaping of the continent of Mizahar.
Where the city of Suva stood proudly in the nation of Suvan, now stands an enormous inland sea named for the very nation it now flooded. Ivak's enemies used his inattention to strike, and while he was busy destroying Suva in his rage and grief, they united together to take him down. Fire erupted. Djed ran wild across the land, and the two great nations lost almost the entirety of their citizenry in one short time. Nothing was left unaffected. Those that survived did so out of luck or planning, often taking to the subterranean depths to escape the war of the heavens. The face of the land, its flora and fauna, even its very nature changed.
Five generations passed. The first and second generations withstood the ravages below ground or in isolated locations throughout Mizahar. The third generation emerged and began to take stock, while the fourth generation began to rebuild. Now, however, is the fifth generation of human life after the Valterrian - the sundering of the world. Life isn't easy. Life isn't simple. But the landscape is wild, open, filled with riches and dangers in equal measures. Opportunities and dangers abound. This generation has the ability to restore order, change their lives for the better, and harness the second chance for what it is: a gift and a curse. They did not cause the Valterrian; they only live with the results. And the life they make isn't an easy one. It's instead an enormous struggle, rewarding and epic. This generation, more so than any other, has the ability to shape Mizahar like none other have before. But they must do so mindful of the Gods, mindful of each other, and the savage world they find themselves in... a new world built on the ruins of the old.
